We took a little weekend get-away to the lake. Reserved a cabin and some kayaks and r-e-l-a-x-e-d. It was such a treat that we went ahead and booked a cabin for next summer.

Union Pacific Railroad Museum
We took some time while in Omaha to go to the Union Pacific Railroad Museum. Being the train buffs that we are, we killed a whole afternoon at the museum.

Omaha Air Show
We headed out last weekend to Omaha for the air show at Offuit Air Force Bases. We have attended before but Matthew was a toddler at the time.
The show was rained out for Saturday so we stayed the evening with family hoping that the weather would improve for Sunday.
The weather was overcast and warm. There was a large crowd attending with long lines to everything. We still enjoyed the day walking the base and viewing the aircraft.

Lake Wabaunsee
We headed to Lake Wabaunsee with my parents yesterday. We wanted to try their kayak out. We had a great time.
I can't remember ever taking Hannah to a lake. Sad, I know. She had so much fun.
I think that Hannah and Matt loved playing in the sand the most.

Our Memorial Day
Hannah was very excited to see her dad "drive" the train.
It was a BIG moment for our family, especially Todd.
It still amazes me that this very train sat in the park just blocks from our house and was played on by children for decades. To think that it is now operational is quite the accomplishment!
Afterwards, the kids and I visited the cemetary. I was pleased with all the questions that Matthew and Hannah were asking about Memorial Day.
Thank you to all who serve this great country.

Antique Engine & Steam Show
Every October, the Central Kansas Flywheels Yesteryear Museum has an Antique Engine and Steam Show. Todd has attended the last 3 years and this was the first year for Matt, Hannah, and I. The weather was cool and rainy but it was still a day well spent with all the hands-on activities and displays.
There were rows and rows of tractors.
Hannah promptly said "Boo KU" when she says this tractor on display. She does take after her mother. :)
A large variety of antique farm machinery and such.
This quaint church house sat atop the hill and was the perfect vantage point to watch the storm rolling in.
There was also an old gas (filling) station on site.
Hannah being "cheesy".
There were even some old fire trucks.
Apparently, they have been sitting here for quite some time.
An Old Schoolhouse.
It was open for tours. It was interesting to see what Matthew and Hannah thought of the small classroom that lacked the bright colors and variety contained in today's classrooms.
As the wind picked up and the rain moved in, we toured the Yesteryear Museum.
There were two levels of all kinds of displays.
There was a large wall that contained about every state and novelty license plate you could dream of for Kansas.
The kids had fun looking for license plates that were familiar.
Washington, Kansas (Todd's hometown)
I couldn't find an Alta Vista plate, but I did find one for Council Grove.
The highlight of the day was Matthew winning a lemon cake in the cake walk.
