Mallory Surgery Update- Post 4

Mallory's Knee
Her incision is fairly small and steri-stripped.  She will have to wear an Ace Bandage for the next several days.
No cast, no splint, no crutches.

The procedure had done was what they call "guided growth surgery" and they inserted an "eight plate".  The eight plate slows/stops the overactive side from growth allowing the other side to catch up.  Actual correction of her deformity will take place over 6-12 months.

Mallory Surgery Update- Post 3

Mallory went back for surgery at 1.  Excitement on her part would be an understatement.  She skipped all the way down the hall.   According to the staff, when Mallory entered the operating room she pumped her fist in the air and said "I'm ready."
Surgery is done!  45 minutes and it's over.
Mallory did great and gave a thumbs up to prove it.
The procedure went as expected.
Follow up can be done through our local doc and xrays can be done in Salina.  >"Happy Dance"<
Within in 6-12 months we should have the desired results and return for removal of the plate.

Mallory Surgery Update- Post 2

Today is the day.  Mallory's surgery at Children's Mercy.
We arrived at the hospital at 11:00 to check-in and then camped out in the waiting area till it was Mallory's turn to go back.
After a fairly short 15 minutes of playing in the play room, the nurse came to get Mallory for all the necessary pre-op hoopla.

Matthew and Hannah came along with us for this surgery.  They are old enough to understand what is going on and appreciate what their sister has to go through.

They did a wonderful job of keeping busy and were very patient the whole day.  I was very proud of them.

Blessings.

3 years ago this month, my sister- Brandy- had brain surgery.
Yes, that's right.  Brain Surgery.
She now has a shunt and has had a remarkable recovery.

Since her surgery, we were blessed with an addition to Brandy & Pepe's family.  Brogan was born in December of 2009.

High Dive.

Swimming comes naturally for Matthew's friend, Casen.
He was in Level 3 this session and passed effortlessly.
On the last day of lessons, he decided to go off the high dive.

Waiting in line.

Making his way down the board.

And the jump.....

He almost jumped out of the frame of my picture. :)

And in he goes.

And a BIG smile before he headed back to the board to go again.

Swim Lessons- Session 1

Matthew, Hannah and their friends, Casen and Josh, just finished their first 2-week session of swim lessons for the summer.

Hannah was one of two girls in a class full of boys.
She was a lot more confident this summer in the water and less fearful of her instructor.

Matthew loved his class and instructor.

He made a trip down the slide.

He has gotten a lot more mobile in the water.

His biggest accomplishment was jumping off the diving board.

Matthew passed Level 2 and will start Level 3 next week.

Hannah was in Level 1.  Which is beginner's swimming.  A lot of it center's around getting comfortable with the water.

Her class had the option to go down the slide.

And she went down it.  On her stomach, feet first. She loved it.

She can fully submerge herself in the water.

And she passed her class as well. She will start Level 2 next week.

It is fun watching the kids advance each summer in swimming.
They enjoy it and it makes for a busy summer.
