First Day of School

Matthew (First Grade)

Mallory (Third Grade)

Matthew's teacher is Mrs. Cook, the same one he had for Kindergarten. Abilene has developed "looping classrooms". This is where students can stay with a teacher for two years at a time. Most of the kids in Matthew's Kindergarten class also chose to stay in Mrs. Cook's class for First Grade as well. We were pretty excited about this. They are all such a great bunch of kids! Mallory is splitting her day between regular education and special education. It's has proven to be a good mix. This year has started on an extremely positive note. Mallory also has two paraprofessionals that split the day with her. Mallory is enjoying her new glasses and is handling them very well. It's been a great start to the school year!

Tilt-A-Whirl

Hannah got to ride her first amusement park ride this summer at our county fair. We had a blast!

Needing a trim.

I took Hannah for another haircut. Her bangs are finally catching up with the rest of her hair. Her bad hair days are fewer and farther between.

Remembering.

It has been a tough month for us with the loss of both of Todd's grandparent's. Our kids handle the weeks of traveling, visiting, and mourning very well.

Hannah drew a picture of her great-grandma, Loetta, and we placed it in her casket with her.

During the funeral, Matthew did a lot of drawing. He was trying to comprehend everything. This was the picture he drew at the funeral while they were giving grandma's eulogy.

I've never been a fan of pictures at a funeral, however, I was moved by this sight. Loetta's grandson's taking her to her final resting place next to grandpa.

Meet me at the House.....

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going." John 14:1-5

Loetta Duey August 10, 2009
I have not been a part of the Duey family for very long. In the short 11 years that I have known Grandma and Grandpa Duey, I have grown to love them dearly and have a great appreciation for their way of life. They taught their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; how to love, work hard, and appreciate life. No meal was eaten without prayer. They had a deep love for the Lord. My fondest memory of Grandpa is how his eyes would twinkle when we would stop by with the kids and how he would make his way to the closet to bring out the toys. He drove a bus and played baseball in Chester, Nebraska in his younger years. I always loved receiving letters from Grandma in the mail. She was a "true" letter writer. A lost art to this generation. Grandma and Grandpa never did anything apart, which makes it no surprise that Grandma found the way to Grandpa so quickly after his death. I will miss them dearly.

Parade

We love this time of year. We look forward to the fair each and every summer. Mallory got to watch the parade with a family friend of ours. Matt, Hannah, and I went to our church parking lot. Our church family had ice pops and bottled water for everyone.

Our favorite part of the parade was the dancing hot dog.

They even handed out free hot dogs!

After the parade, we made our annual trip to the Elks Lodge for the fish fry.

Sunny Days

The weather has been absolutely beautiful. Hard to believe that we're having 80 degree days in July. We have been spending alot of time at the park.

Hannah making her mother nervous. She has NO fear of heights.

All three on the tire swing! They giggled the whole time.
